Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. The son of a Roman family living in Britain, Patrick was captured at 16 by Irish raiders, but escaped from slavery six years later and made his way home. After entering the Church and rising to the position of bishop, he returned to Ireland as a missionary in the second half of the 5th century.

Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th. It is both a religious and secular holiday.
